Abstract: Currently, the nanozymes-based catalysis was focused on their enzyme (peroxidase) mimetic properties. This work described a novel idea for the development of nanozymes with simultaneous photocatalytic activity for enhancing their catalytic performances. In this regard, the BiOI nanoflowers (BiOI-NFs) with dual photocatalytic and nanozymatic properties were synthesized to develop a novel photo-induced nanozymatic system for ultra-fast biodegradation of methylene blue as a model organic dye. The effective factors on the photo-induced nanozymatic dye degradation were optimized, and the performances of this novel system were compared with simple common nanozymatic or photocatalytic approaches. The developed photo-induced nanozymatic system revealed a degradation efficiency as high as 99.4% at a highly short time of 5.0 min. In contrast, the simple nanozymatic and simple photocatalytic systems exhibited an efficiency of 72% (after 25 min) and 58% (after 30.0 min), in order. Considering these results, both biodegradation efficiency and time were significantly improved upon the developed photo-induced nanozymatic system. The reusability studies revealed that the degradation efficiency of dye was stabled for at-lease 20 cycles. Besides, the first-order kinetics model with a Kapp of 0.8768 min−1 for 20.0 mg L−1 MB was obtained for the developed method. The method was then used for dye degradation in real water media including tap, pool, and river water, revealing a 96.2–99.5% degradation yield at an ultra-short time of 5.0 min. As a consequence, developing nanozymes with simultaneous photocatalytic activity can be considered a newly opened door in nanozyme-based catalysis.
