Abstract:

In this study, simple morphological and structural evolutions of two-dimensional hexagonal nanoplatelets were investigated. XRD analysis of SnO2 and SnO2:Y has revealed a tetragonal structure and photoluminescence spectra exhibited a visible emission broadband peak around 464 nm and 528 nm. The photoluminescence spectra of SnO2:Y (7 wt.%) confirm the increased charge separation, which inhibits electron–hole recombination. Raman spectra  validated the presence of oxygen vacancies in SnO2:Y (7 wt.%) nanoplatelets. It has been shown that hexagonal SnO2:Y (7 wt.%) nanoplatelets perform better in photocatalytic degradation than conventional spherical nanoparticles. EIS measurements were performed to investigate the charge carrier movement of SnO2 and SnO2:Y nanoparticles. Our study is the first to illustrate the two-dimensional morphology of SnO2:Y (7 wt.%) hexagonal nanoplatelets and their application as a photocatalytic material.
