Abstract:

Nanoparticles (NPs) of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) were prepared in this present perspective by using the flower extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus (family: Violaceae, common local name: Oritaltamarai), which could perform as both reducing cum capping agent. The surface plasmon resonance is observed for the prepared Ag and Au NPs through UV–visible absorption spectra analysis. Fourier Transform Infrared spectra analysis demonstrated the –OH group’s existence in the flower extract. The size distribution and stability of the prepared materials were analyzed by Dynamic light Scattering analysis. From the Transmission Electron Microscopy micrographs the NPs were observed to be spherical in shape. The prepared NPs exhibited superior reduction in malachite green and methylene blue into leuco malachite green and leuco methylene blue, respectively, in catalytic activity. The reduction was confirmed through UV–Vis spectroscopy and is found to be an efficient catalyst for degrading chemical dyes. The prepared Ag and Au NPs also exhibited a stabilized anti-bacterial activity and anti-arthritic activity.
