One-step fabrication of biomass carbon dots for highly selective detection of Fe3+

Abstract:

A biomass carbon dots (CDs) was synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal method by utilizing waste of camellia fruit shell as raw materials. The biomass CDs were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques, which illustrated the presence of hydrophilic functional groups and fluorescence properties. The selective fluorescence quenching of biomass CDs enabled rapid and accurate detection of Fe3+. The fluorescence emission ratios exhibited a linear relationship with Fe3+ concentrations ranging from 1 to 50 μM. A fluorescence method based on biomass CD was established to detect Fe3+ in water sample, with detection limit of 0.75 μM. Additionally, this biomass CDs can also be utilized for indirect detection of ascorbic acid based on fluorescence recovery. Moreover, the synthesis of biomass CDs is facile, environmentally friendly required only water as a solvent, making it promising in its composite synthesis and application in sensing.
