Studies of XPS and ORD on Ternary Lanthanide Complexes of D-Camphor-β-sulfonic Acid and 1,10-Phenanthroline

Abstract: Nine new chiral ternary complexes of lanthanide with D-camphor-beta -sulfonic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline formulated here as Ln(Phen)₂L₂Cl .H₂O (Ln = La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Eu(III), Tb(III), Dy(III), and Ho(III), Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, L = ion of D-camphor-β -sulfonic anion) have been synthesized and characterized by the elemental analysis, molar conductance, UV, IR, XPS, ORD, and fluorescence spectra. A chiral seven-coordinate structure has been proposed for these complexes.
