Kinetics of Esteri_cation of Maleic Anhydride with Hexan-1-ol Using Selected Catalysts

Abstract: The kinetics of the esterification of maleic anhydride with hexan-1-ol using various catalysts has been investigated in an isothermal semibatch reactor. It was found that the second stage of the esterification of maleic anhydride with hexan-1-ol in the presence of sulfuric acid is of the first order in a relationship to the monoester. The reaction rate is also directly proportional to the concentration of the catalyst – sulfuric acid. In case when tetrabutyl titanate catalyst is used the reaction is of the second order with respect to acid and alcohol and when no catalyst is used the reaction is of the second order with respect to the acid. The kinetic parameters have been determined.
