Studies on Organomercury(ll) Complexes of 5-Fluorouracil

Abstract: A number of organomercury(II) complexes involving 5-fluorouracil (HL) of the type RHgL (R = p-MeC6H4, p-MeOC6H4, p-NO2C6H4, p-HOC6H4, o-HOC6H4) have been synthesized. Conductance measurements reveal that the compounds are nonelectrolytes. From IR and UV spectral studies the bonding modes of the ligand to the mercury(ll) ion have been deduced. 1H and 13C NMR spectral studies confirm the stoichiometry of the complexes. The fragmentation pattern has been analyzed on the basis of mass spectral studies.
