Solvolysis of Thioamides in Alkaline Region in the System of Water-Ethanol

Abstract: The rate constants of alkaline solvolysis of N,N-diphenylthiobenzamide and 4-chloro-N,N-dimethylthiobenzamide have been measured. The change in the reaction order with respect to the base concentration, conditioned by change in composition of the solvent, has been discussed on the basis of Taft's mechanisms and equilibrium between the hydroxide and ethoxide ions.
