Abstract: Using the "sessile drop" method the angle of contact between graphite and the cryolite-based melt was investigated. The influence of the additions of LiF, CaF2, MgF2 and of dissolved aluminium on wetting of graphite by the melt was studied. It was found that the dissolved aluminium remarkably changes properties of the graphite-cryolite melt interphase while the additions of LiF, CaF2, and MgF2 have only mild influence on this parameter.
