Abstract: Synthesis of 3-substituted 2-benzylbenzothiazolium salts by the reaction of 2-benzylbenzothiazole with halo derivatives in CH₃CN has been described. Treatment of 2-benzylbenzothiazole with ethyl iodide resulted in an anomalous reaction, giving 3-ethylbenzothiazolium iodide and 1,2-diphenylethane. Some of the synthesized compounds showed evident or highly significant growth-regulating activity on coleoptiles of Triticum aestivum L.
