Abstract: The relationships between the ratio of molar enthalpy increase in the
interval (0 К—Tf) to molar volume, the linear thermal expansion in the interval (273 К—Tf ) and the fraction of atoms (molecules) of inorganic substances with molar enthalpy of the liquid state on the one hand and the
mechanical properties of these substances such as hardness, tensile strength,
and plasticity on the other hand have been analyzed. The ratio of molar
enthalpy increase to molar volume has been used as a criterion of tensile
strength and hardness of the solid substances. The plasticity of elements is
interpreted from the viewpoint of the range of action of attractive forces in
the solid state and of the value of the fraction of atoms with molar enthalpy
of the liquid state.
