Abstract: Crystals of Cd(V03)2•4H20 were prepared by the reaction between
Cd(CH3COO)2 and NH4V03 in aqueous solution. The compound crystal
lizes in the monoclinic system, the space group is Cc, a = 1.3319(6) nm,
b = 1.0344(5) nm, с = 0.7044(2) nm, ß = 111.51(3)° and there are four formula units in the unit cell. The structure was determined and refined by
conventional methods using data measured on an automatic diffractometer.
The final R value was 0.040 for 890 observed diffractions. Each vanadium
atom is coordinated by five oxygen atoms forming a tetragonal pyramid
which is connected with the others into the chain parallel to the с axis. The
cadmium atom is coordinated octahedrally by four oxygen atoms and two
water molecules. The relation between the structure of Cd(V03)2•4H20,
Ca(V03)2 -4H20, and α-Cd(V03)2 is discussed.
