Benzothiazole compounds. 32. Photochemical isomerization of 3-substituted 2-styrylbenzothiazolium salts

Abstract: Photochemical trans-cis isomerization of 3-substituted 2-styrylben­zothiazolium salts has been studied. The composition of equilibrium mix­ture is dependent on the polarity of the solvent. Reverse thermal isomeriza­tion competes with the photochemical reaction. The structure of the cation affects the quantum yields only slightly.
