Structural and chiroptical properties of rigid system with planar alpha, beta-unsaturated imine group

Abstract: The structure of polycyclic compound with a new type of heteroannularly incorporated conjugated imine chromophore has been determined. Measurements of circular dichroism are presented. Disappearance of characteristic couplet of dichroic bands with opposite sign in the region of α➜α  * electron transition after protonation is also studied. The origin of optical activity of the α ➜ α * transition is approached on the basis of qualitatively derived transition moments π and  m.
