Synthesis of 3-(aryl-X-)coumarins and their pesticidal and antifungal activity

Abstract: 3-(Aryl-X-)coumarins, where X is oxygen or — C(0)NH— group, have been prepared by Perkin synthesis from aryl-X-ethanoic acids and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde at 180—200 °C. They were tested for herbicidal, fungicidal, and insecticidal activities as well as for activity against dermatophytes.
