Determination of subsidiary and trace-elements in copper slags, copper mattes, and metallic copper by atomic-absorption spectrometry

Abstract: A method for determination of AI, As, Bi, Ca, Co, Mg, Ni, Pb, Sb, and Zn in copper slags, copper mattes, and metallic copper has been developed. The mentioned elements were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry with flame atomization on a Perkin—Elmer 306 A apparatus. The following solvents have been found to be most suitable: for the copper slags HF, for copper mattes aqua regia, and for metallic copper HN03. During elaboration of the method, the matrix effect on the absorbance of the individual elements was investigated. For the elimination of that effect model comparable solutions were used. Analytical calibration curves were constructed for each element and each matrix and their parameters were statistically evaluated. The values of the detection limit as well as the values of the relative precision of the concentration determination were calculated.
