Abstract: The redox properties of N,N'-ethylenebis(thioacetylacetoniminato)cobalt(II) and N,N'-ethylenebis(thioacetylacetoniminato)copper(II) complexes (CoN2S2 and CuN2S2, resp.) were studied by cyclic voltammetry at a Pt electrode in MeOH soln. In the presence of triphenylphosphine, tritolylphosphine, and tris(3-chlorophenyl)phosphine, which are supposed to enter the coordination sphere of complexes, the redox potential of the electrode reaction {CoN2S2}+ + e- ⇄ CoN2S2 was shifted to lower values (as a consequence of the preferential coordination of arylphosphine to {CoN2S2}). In this case also the effect of a substituent on the benzene ring of arylphosphine was studied. The redox potential of the reaction {CuN2S2}+ + e- ⇄ CuN2S2 was analogously influenced by the presence of triphenylphosphine and its derivs., resp., however, not to the extent as for the above complex. In this case, no effect of the remote substituent was obsd.
