Abstract: Ni(NCS)2(pipe)2(py)H2O.2pipe (I) (pipe = piperidine) was prepd. by recrystn. of Ni(NCS)2(pipe)4 from pipe contg. pyridine impurity in C6H6 and were characterized by elemental anal., thermal, x-ray diffraction, and IR and electronic spectral methods. I crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c, with a=144.09 pm, b=172.51pm, c=140.81 pm, β= 109.32°, and Z = 4. The crystal structure was refined by the least-squares method anisotropically to R = 8.5%. Ni has a pseudooctahedral coordination of atoms NiN2N12N2O (N from NCS, N1 from the pipe, N2 from pyridine, and O from H2O) with bond lengths Ni-N 20.64 pm, Ni-N1 22.08 pm, Ni-N2 21.48 pm, and Ni-O 21.65 pm. The 2 next pipe mols. are H-bonded with H2O. The bond length O...N (the N from the noncoordinated pipe) is 28.67 pm. The NCS groups are bonded terminally through the N atoms.
