Abstract:  Study has been made of redox behaviour of CrL3 complexes (L = diethyl-, tetramethylene-, and pentamethylenedithiocarbamate) at platinum and mercury electrodes in dimethylformamide and acetonitrile. The reduction of complexes is a two-step reaction. The first step Cr(III) →Cr(II) is connected with the liberation of one ligand, the second two-electron reduction step leads to chromium(O) and to a complete decomposition of the coordination sphere. During the primary oxidation one electron is transferred on to the complex particle and then the oxidation is followed by the intramolecular redox process. The ability of the dithiocarbamate ligand to stabilize a high oxidation state of metal has been proved to be rather lower in the case of complexes with high values of oxidation potential.
