Chiroptical properties of D-galactosyl derivatives of nitromethane

Abstract: Low-temp. measurements of 4 isomeric D-galactosylnitromethanes, showing stabilization of the preferred conformations, gave the origin of the long-wave optically active electronic transitions. The change of the sign of the first (~310 nm) and the third (~215 nm) dichroic bands distinguish the α- and β-anomers of this type of 1-deoxy-1-nitromethylsaccharides.
