Abstract:  Spectrochemical determination of niobium and tantalum in geochemical samples and technical materials is often impeded by formation of nonvolatile compounds which arise in the course of excitation by direct current arc. By addition of suitable thermochemical reagents the formation of such compounds, especially of carbides, can be suppressed, which affects favourably the limits of detection for niobium and tantalum. Analyses for these two elements were run in C- and SiO2-matrix and as thermochemical reagents the compounds LiF, LiF + AgNO3 , Ga2O3 , Cr2O3 ,GeO2 , AgNO3, and AgNO3 + С were used. From among those LiF added to a C-matrix and AgNO3 + С added to a SiO2-matrix produced the desired effect.
