Preparation and characterization of magnesium oxide-bound trichlorobis(tetrahydrofuran)titanium(III)

Abstract: The anchoring of the coordinatively unsatd. complex TiCl3(C4H8O)2 to the surface of MgO leads to the formation of surface attached Ti(III) complexes, which were investigated by ESR and IR spectroscopy. The anchoring of the original complex to the surface is achieved by the reaction of the complex with the basic centers on the surface of MgO. On thermal decompn. of thus formed surface complexes their aggregation takes place. By their reaction with mol. O the radical O2- arises which is coordinated to Ti(IV).
