Electrical conductivity of molten LiCl—NaCl—KCl and LiCl—NaCl—KCl—AICI3 mixtures

Abstract:  The specific electrical conductivity was determined experimentally of selected molten ternary LiCl—NaCl—KCl and quaternary LiCl—NaCl—KCl—AlCl3 mixtures which are of interest with respect to new industrial processes for electrolytic aluminium deposition. A method for the calculation of the electrical conductivity of molten ternary and quaternary mixtures on the basis of experimentally determined values of the electrical conductivity and molar volumes of the corresponding binary systems was proposed. The good agreement between the calculated and experimental conductivity values of the ternary and quaternary mixtures confirms the correctness of the proposed method of calculation.
