Synthesis and antimicrobial activity of 2-(alkylthio)-6-salicylideneaminobenzothiazoles

Abstract: Sixteen 2-alkylthio-6-salicylideneaminobenzothiazoles have been prepared by the reaction of salicylaldehyde with 2-alkylthio-6-aminobenzothiazoles and their structures have been proved by 'H-n.m.r. spectroscopy. The synthesized compounds were tested for antimicrobial activity. The highest fungicidal and fungistatic activities were found with benzyl derivative in 12.5 and 3.1 μg/ml concentrations, respectively against Trichophyton rubrum.
