Isomerization of pentoses and 2-pentuloses by inorganic phosphates

Abstract:  2-Pentuloses isomerize to the corresponding pentoses in the presence of potassium hydrogen phosphate. The yield and the purity of the final products are influenced by temperature and concentration of the salt. Similarly, pentoses isomerize to the corresponding 2-pentuloses at the same conditions. These isomerization reactions were studied with respect to the preparation of 2-pentuloses.
