Department of Inorganic Chemistry, Slovak Technical University, SSO 37 Bratislava

Abstract: Ferric chloride reacts with triphenylphosphine in acetonitrile and some other solvents in the presence of air oxygen to give FeCl3OPPh3)2. The air oxygen gradually oxidizes triphenylphosphine in the solid FeCI3(PPh3)2, too, and FeCl3(OPPh3)2 arises. A complete oxidation of triphenylphosphine in the solid FeCl3(PPh3)2 takes place at 80°C.
