 Phase diagram of the ternary system KBF₄—NaCl—KCl

Abstract: The system KBF₄-NaCl-KCl was studied by thermal anal. and the phase equilibria were detd. in the binary systems KBF₄-NaCl and KBF₄-KCl, and in the ternary system KBF₄-NaCl-KCl in the compn. range which is interesting with respect to electrolytic boriding. The ternary system is a simple eutectic system, the coordinates of the ternary eutectic point being: KBF₄ 66.5, NaCl 28.5, KCl 5 mol %, and 427°C. The exptl. results are compared with data detd. by thermodn. calcns. The data based on the theory of conformal ionic solns. are in good agreement with the exptl. values.
