Preparation and determination of isomeric chloromethylation products of C₆-C₈ aromatics

Abstract:  A mixture of isomeric chloromethylated aromatic hydrocarbons resulting from the chloromethylation of individual C₆ — C₈ aromatics was separated by vacuum distillation and the obtained monochloromethyl aromatics were analyzed by gas chromatography using di-n-decyl phthalate and Carbowax 1450-coated capillary columns at 100°C. The individual monochloromethyl derivatives were characterized by means of their i.r. spectra and Kovats' indices.
