Abstract: The effect was studied of org. solvents and inorg. acids on the selectivity of a strongly-acid cation exchanger for bivalent cations. Increase of Dg (distribution coeffs.) of Mg2+, Co2+, and Mn2+ due to addn. of a solvent (MeOH, EtOH, AcOH) was const. in 0.1-1M acid solns., and the dependence of log Dg on 1/ε was linear (ε is dielec. const.). Sorption of Mg2+ in 0.1-2M HClO4, H2SO4, and HCl was related to activity coeffs. of the acids.
