Abstract: Isomer I of Ni(NCS)2Q2.2H2O (Q = quinoline) was prepd. by dissolving 0.04 moles of NiCl2.6H2O in 80 ml. of EtOH and adding to the soln. 0.08 moles of KNCS. KCl was sepd. by filtering and 10 ml. of quinoline was added. Dark green rod-shaped crystals of isomer I formed in the same soln. Also isomer I changed to isomer II after trituration and standing in air at 20° for 7-10 days. Diffusion reflectance spectra show that both complexes have a 6-coordinate pseudooctahedral structure. The ir spectra suggest that the compn. of isomer I is [Ni(NCS)2. (H2O)2Q2] and that of isomer II is [Ni(NCS)2Q2].2H2O.
