Abstract: Infrared spectra of three aldobiouronic acids: 6-0-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl-
-D-galactose, 2-0-β-D-glucuronopyranosyl-D-mannose, and 6-0-(4-0-methyl-
-ß-DTglucuronopyranosyl)-D-galactose and of their methyl (methyl glycosid)-
uronates were recorded and absorption bands in the 900 —700 cm-1 range
interpreted. The identified absorption bands at 935 — 925, 890 — 875, and
785 —780 cm-1 were assigned to the reducing end in the aldobiouronic
acids. This conclusion was confirmed also by the strong band at 830 cm-1
in the spectra of methyl (methyl glycosid)uronates of all three aldobiouronic
acids where the influence of α anomer became evident. The absorption
bands in the region of 810 — 800 cm-1 can be assigned to β-glycosidic bonds
between the uronic acid residue and the hexose unit.
