 Dissociation of the AlF₆^3- anion in the systems Li₃AlF₆— CaF₂, Li₃AlF₆—SrF₂, and Li₃AlF₆—BaF₂

Abstract: K Grjotheim's (1956) generalized method was applied to the system Li₃AlF₆-MF₂ (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) to calcn. the dissocn. of the  AlF₆^3- anion. The dissocn. degree of AlF₆^3- in pure molten Li₃AlF₆ is 0.30. Comparison of theor. and exptl. data indicates CaF₂ ionizes to CaF⁺ and F^-, whereas SrF₂ and BaF₂ dissoc. into Sr²⁺ and Ba²⁺, resp., and F^-.
