Abstract: Studied was the thermal decomposition of two hydrate isomers of
[Ni(NCS)2(H20)2Q2] (I) and [Ni(NCS)2Q2 • 2H20] (II) (Q = quinoline).
The results show that the energy necessary for the separation of two
moles H2 0 and reorganization of the crystal lattice is for I essentially lower
(_1H = 6.3 kcal mol-1) than for II (
ΔНII= 19.7 kcal mol-1).
Besides it has been found that the decomposition of 7 takes place in two
steps ( —2H20; — 2Q), while that of II is a three step process ( —2H20;
— (0.62 to 1 Q); —(1.38 to 1 Q)). The reasons for variations in the loss of
weight for II are discussed.
