Thermal behavior of peroxydiphosphates. III. Lithium peroxydiphosphate and its hydrates

Abstract: The reaction of a satd. aq. soln. of LiClO₄.3H₂O with K₄P₂O₈ yields pure Li₄P₂O₈.4H₂O. On heating to 140°, DTA and thermogravimetric anal. indicate that 3.5 moles of H₂O are released, forming Li₄P₂O₈.1/2H₂O which gives off active O₂ in an exothermic reaction at 270°, yielding Li₄P₂O₇.1/2H₂O. The decompn. to the anhyd. Li₄P₂O₇ is complete at about 500°. The thermal behavior of Li₄P₂O₈.4H₂O is therefore similar to that of Na₄P₂O₈.6H₂O.
