α,β-Unsaturated ketones derived from acetylpyridines. V. Preparation and structure of some heterocyclic analogs of 1,3,5-triphenyl-2-pyrazoline

Abstract:  By the reaction of some diazachalcones and (furfurylidenemethyl)pyridylketones with Phenylhydrazine or some of its para substituted derivatives under the catalytic effect of 10°_o tetramethylammonium hydroxide, nineteen hitherto not described heterocyclic analogs of 1,3,5-triphenyl-2-pyrazoline were prepared. Their structure was elucidated by interpretation of their infrared, ultraviolet, fluorescence, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, respectively. On the basis of the results of fluorescence spectra, the possible application of these compounds as optical brightening agents was shown.
