The Voltammetry of Triarylmethane Dyes in Acetonitrile and an Attempt to Correlate their Half-Wave Potentials with Quantum Chemical Characteristics

Abstract: The voltammetric behaviour of triarylmethane compounds in a non- -aqueous medium of acetonitrile was studied. It was found that substances undergo one-electron oxidation and reduction forming radical-cation or radical, respectively. The fate of products was followed. The half-wave potential values obtained were correlated with the corresponding energies of the highest occupied and lowest free molecular orbitals obtained by the simple method of molecular orbitals (HMO).
