Abstract: Polarographic research of five keto-isonitroso derivatives of indan was
performed. The relation between dissociation constants of the studied derivatives
and the pertinent values of half-wave potentials of oxime group was
established. The oxime group, whether it belongs to the protonized, non-
-protonized or dissociated form of compound, yields only one four-electron
wave over the whole range of pH.
In case of 1,3-indandionedioxime, both oxime groups yield simultaneously
one eight-electron wave. Dependence of the limiting current of this wave
on pH has the shape of a dissociation curve. With regard to this it may be
assumed that this least acidic derivative is polarographically active only
in the protonized form.
Carbonyl groups of 2-isonitroso-l,3-indandione yield in acid medium,
similarly as carbonyl groups of indan-1,3-dione, two two-electron waves.
In basic medium, in contrast to indan-1,3-dione, it yields one four-electron
wave.
