Furan derivatives. XIX. Furfurylideneamino derivatives of furan

Abstract: The paper deals with the preparation of azomethin derivatives of furan via condensation of alkyl esters of 5-amino-pyromucic acid (R = CH₃, C₂H₆, C₃H₇, CH(CH₃)₂) with 5-X-furfurals (X = H, CH₃, Cl, Br, I, COOCH₃, N0₂). The infra-red and ultra-violet spectra of the synthesized azomethins were compared with the spectra of 1-(5-nitro-2-furyl)-2-(5-carbethoxy-2-furyl)-ethylene, 5-(5-X-furfurylidenaminomethyl)furan and ethyl ester of 5-(5-X-furfurylidenaminomethyl)pyromucic acid.
