Hydroformylation of α,β-unsaturated acid esters

Abstract: A hydroformylation of acrylic and metacrylic acid esters was investigated. The rate of hydroformylation is dependent on the ester alkyl group on the multiple bond carbon substituents, as well. The competition reaction which comes into play in hydroformylation reaction to greatest extent is the hydrogenation of β-formylester and lactonization of γ-hydroxy ester. The lactonization process of methyl aery late and methyl metacrylate and yields of lactons were compared at various temperatures.
