Abstract: The following compounds were synthesized and submitted to Polarographie investigation:
sodium l-isothiocyanate-4-naphthalene sulphonate, sodium l-isothiocyanate-5-
-naphthalene sulphonate, sodium l-isothiocyanate-6-naphthalene sulphonate and sodium
1-isothiocyanate-7-naphthalene sulphonate. El/2 and the limiting currents were measured
in dependence on pH. In the acid area, all four compounds under investigation are reduced
and produce two waves, in the basic area they produce one wave. The number of
the electrons which take part in the reduction of one molecule of the depolarisator are
measured by millicoulometry. The results proved that the reduction process as it was
suggested by H. Lund [5] was correct. Further it was found that the influence of the
sulpho group on the reduction of the isothiocyanate group was very small.
