Isothiocyanates. XXI. Synthesis of p-substituted derivatives of isothiocyanatostilbenes

Abstract: A synthesis and spectral data of p-substituted isothiocyanatostilbenes are reported. From the experimentally obtained spectral data it appears that the position of the asymetrical stretching mode of NCS group (v_{as Ncs} = 2060 cm^-1 of the compounds studied is by the substituent, bound in p-position of the second benzene ring, slightly influenced. The ultraviolet spectral data point at the possibility of the mesomeric interaction between the NCS group and the conjugated system of the compounds in question.
