Furan derivatives. VIII. Azomethines of 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde with 5-aminobenzimidazoles

Abstract: By the reaction of 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde with 1-R and 1-R-2-methyl-5-aminobenzimidazoles in ethanol, the corresponding azomethines were prepared, where R = H, C₆H₅ , 4-CH₃-C₆H₄ , 4-Cl-C₆H₄ , 4-Br-C₆H₄ , 4-l-C₆H₄ , 4-CH₃0-C₆H₄ , 4-C₂H₅0-C₆H₄ , 4-C₂H₅S-C₆H₄ , 4-(C₂H₅)₂N-C₆H₄  andC₆H₅-CH₂ . Comparison of electron absorption spectra of both series of substances showed that the substitution of hydrogen by a methyl group in position 2 of benzimidazole does not result in any modification of their electron spectrum.
