Preparation of iron(II) tetracarbonyl chloride and the examination of its thermal decomposition

Abstract: An indirect chlorination of iron pentacarbonyl by means of carbonyl chloride is described, where chlorine is evolved in the reaction medium. Advantage of this method lies in a better utilization of chlorine originated in the reaction, in a more precise dosing of the reagent and in a higher reaction rate.
