Furan derivatives. XI. Synthesis and absorption spectra of benzoic acid [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]- and [5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene] hydrazides

Abstract: Sixteen new furan-2,5-disubstituted derivatives were synthetised by condensation of monosubstituted benzenecarboxylic acid hydrazides with 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furaldehyde and 5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furaldehyde, respectively, in ethanol: [5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]benzoylhydrazones; [5-(4-nitrophenyl)--2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl-2-furfurylidenel-4'-methylbenzoylhydrazones; [5--(4-nitrophenyl)-2'-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4/-hydroxybenzoylhydrazones; [5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]- 2'-hydroxybenzoylhydrazones; [5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfuiylidene]-4'-chlorobenzoylhydrazones; [5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl-2-furfurylidene-4'-bromobenzoylhydrazones; [5-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl-2-furfurylidene-4'-iodobenzoylhydrazones; [5-(4-nitrophenyl)- 2-furfurylidene] and [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4'-nitrobenzoylhydrazones. The synthesis of the title compounds is described and their ultra-violet and infra-red spectra are discussed.
