Heterogeneous reactions of solid nickel(II) complexes. I. Reaction of a dichlorotetrathioureanickel(II) complex with gaseous ammonia

Abstract: The reaction of the solid NiCl₂tu₄ (tu is thiourea) complex with gaseous NH₃ at room temp. and atm. pressure is described. The formation of a new compd. [Ni(NH₃)₆]Cl₂.4tu was detd. by gravimetric thermal anal. and D.T.A. in a 1-stage exothermic process with the highest rate being in the initial phase of the reaction: [NiCl₂ tu₄]_(s) + 6NH_3(g) = [Ni(NH₃)₆]Cl₂.4tu_(s). The thiourea and Cl^- are completely substituted by NH₃ in the complex [Ni(NH₃)₆]²⁺, so that all NH₃ is coordinated to the Ni(II).
