Chromatography of pentoses on microcrystalline cellulose

Abstract: The thinlayer chromatog. on microcryst. cellulose for the preparative sepn. of pentoses, 2-, and 3-pentuloses was described. Microcryst. cellulose has a greater capacity and better sepn. effect than the powd. product. For the preparative sepn. of pentoses, the solvent system acetone-butanol-water (7:2:1) was applied. The purity of the individual fractions can be controlled by the solvent system acetone-butanol-water (8:1:1).
