Titanium(III) chlorocomplexes. I. Synthesis of the complex (TiCl₃py₃)

Abstract: The yield of the solid complex (TiCl₃py₃), as a function of the molar ratio of anhyd. solid α-TiCl₃ and pyridine dissolved in hexane, the pyridine concn., and the nature and time of mixing was studied. The complex was prepd. in a rotating glass reactor at 20° in an inert atm. A 98% yield was obtained after 1 hr. and by using a 3-fold excess of 1.0-1.2M pyridine soln. in hexane.
