Abstract: The prepn. of compds. of the same formula Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 but of a different structure in relation to the exptl. procedure and to the Peyron and Jorgensen (cf. Gazo, et al., CA 53, 13862g) rule was studied. Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 is formed from aq. or acetone solns. by the substitution of SCN-ligands with NH3 mols. or in the solid state by the substitution of NH3 ligands with SCN-. From the solns. prepd. Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 has a trans-configuration regardless of the exptl. procedure used. By the thermal decompn. of Cu(SCN)2(NH3)6, an isomer of a different structure β-Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 was formed. Between Pt(II) and Cu(II) complexes there are variations in the validity of the Peyron and Jorgenson rule. The mechanism of substitution reactions by thermal decompn. of the higher NH3 complexes of Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 was discussed.
