Abstract: A simple and sensitive method was described for the detn. of As in ores and rocks contg. ≥ 1.0% Mn, by a neutron activation analysis without radiochem. working-up of the samples. The samples were subjected to radiation in a nuclear reactor for 20 min. in a neutron flux of 3 × 1012 neutrons/cm.2-sec. After 70 hrs., when the disintegration of 56Mn (t1/2 = 2.57 hrs.) and other disturbing radionuclei was completed, the activity was measured with a γ-spectrometer with a 400-channel amplitude analyzer, a NaI(Tl) scintillator, 25 × 35 mm., and a EMI 6097F photomultiplier. The amt. of 76As (t1/2 = 26.8 hrs.) was detd. by measuring the γ-peak at 0.555 mev. The sensitivity of the detns. was 5 × 10-6 g. with a total relative error of ±15%.
