Colorimetric determination of fluorides in air

Abstract: A method for the indirect detn. of fluorides in amts. of 0.45-4.50 γ F-/ml. in an Al production plant by the application of Fe³⁺-SCN-complex extd. from the water layer by amyl alc. was described. Good results were obtained with 6 × 10^-5M Fe³⁺ and 1.5 × 10^-2M SCN^- at pH 2.1 and with amyl alc. as an extg. agent. A calibration curve in the concn. range 0.45-4.50 γ F-/ml. is shown. The max. deviation in the results was within 5%.
